There are a vast number of PostgreSQL clients available on the Internet. From standard Drivers to BI and Analytics tools, PostgreSQL is a popular interface for data access. Using our JDBC Drivers, you can now create PostgreSQL entry-points that you can connect to from any standard client.

  1. PostgreSQL server has a pretty neat feature to log the slow running queries behind the scenes. You can configure the database instance to log queries taking longer than a specific time and the system will dump the SQL query in a log file for you to analyze and improve upon.
  2. WPPG is a plugin based on PG4WP plugin, that gives you the possibility to install and use WordPress with a PostgreSQL database as a backend. It works by replacing calls to MySQL specific functions with generic calls that map them to other database functions and rewriting SQL queries on the fly when needed.
  3. WordPress uses MySQL as its database management system, which is a software installed on your WordPress hosting server. Your WordPress database is also stored on the same server. This location however is not accessible on most shared hosting environments.

Sloppily ported to PostgreSQL by Keenan Tims (ktims@gotroot.ca). Source codebase is the 6-Oct-2004 release of WordPress 1.2.1. For those so inclined, donations are accepted via PayPal with the address ktims@gotroot.ca WordPress version 1.2.1 PostgreSQL port version 1.0. PostgreSQL is a important database, but WordPress can’t support it now. I hope WordPress will support PostgreSQL. Not only PostgreSQL,but also others databases are not support directly. You must write configs or install plugins then WordPress will works.

To access WordPress data as a PostgreSQL database, use the CData JDBC Driver for WordPress and a JDBC foreign data wrapper (FDW). In this article, we compile the FDW, install it, and query WordPress data from PostgreSQL Server.

Connect to WordPress Data as a JDBC Data Source

To connect to WordPress as a JDBC data source, you will need the following:

  • Driver JAR path: The JAR is located in the lib subfolder of the installation directory.
  • Driver class: cdata.jdbc.wordpress.WordPressDriver

  • JDBC URL: The URL must start with 'jdbc:wordpress:' and can include any of the connection properties in name-value pairs separated with semicolons.

    To connect to WordPress, set the URL property and other authentication properties. WordPress supports Basic (User and Password) and OAuth2.0 authentication, though Basic is recommended for a testing environment only. To connect with OAuth you will need to register an app with WordPress.

    Built-in Connection String Designer

    For assistance in constructing the JDBC URL, use the connection string designer built into the WordPress JDBC Driver. Either double-click the JAR file or execute the jar file from the command-line.

    java -jar cdata.jdbc.wordpress.jar

    Fill in the connection properties and copy the connection string to the clipboard.

    A typical JDBC URL is below:

The Foreign Data Wrapper can be installed as an extension to PostgreSQL, without recompiling PostgreSQL. The jdbc2_fdw extension is used as an example (downloadable here).

  1. Add a symlink from the shared object for your version of the JRE to /usr/lib/libjvm.so. For example: ln -s /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so /usr/lib/libjvm.so
  2. Start the build: make install USE_PGXS=1

Query WordPress Data as a PostgreSQL Database

After you have installed the extension, follow the steps below to start executing queries to WordPress data:

  1. Log into your database.
  2. Load the extension for the database: CREATE EXTENSION jdbc2_fdw;
  3. Create a server object for WordPress: CREATE SERVER WordPress FOREIGN DATA WRAPPER jdbc2_fdw OPTIONS ( drivername 'cdata.jdbc.wordpress.WordPressDriver', url 'jdbc:wordpress:Url=http://www.yourwordpresshost.com;InitiateOAuth=GETANDREFRESH', querytimeout '15', jarfile '/home/MyUser/CData/CData JDBC Driver for Salesforce MyDriverEdition/lib/cdata.jdbc.wordpress.jar');
  4. Create a user mapping for the username and password of a user known to the MySQL daemon. CREATE USER MAPPING for postgres SERVER WordPress OPTIONS ( username 'admin', password 'test');
  5. Create a foreign table in your local database: postgres=# CREATE FOREIGN TABLE categories ( categories_id text, categories_Id text, categories_Name numeric) SERVER WordPress OPTIONS ( table_name 'categories');
You can now execute read/write commands to WordPress: Wordpress PostgresqlPostgresql postgres=# SELECT * FROM categories;
